Chief Justin Barley was appointed in January 2019 to oversee the police department. Chief Barley has served with the Hartselle Police Department since January 1999. During this time, Chief Barley has been assigned to the Patrol Division, Special Operations (Community Service) Division, Narcotics Division and Criminal Investigations Division. He was the Chief Investigator from June 2005 until May 2017. He returned to Patrol to serve as Shift Commander until being appointed as Chief of Police.
Chief Barley has a Bachelor's degree in Public Safety Administration from Athens State University and a Master's Degree in Justice and Public Safety from Auburn University Montgomery. Chief Barley is a Graduate of the 235th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Chief Barley is also recognized as a Certified Police Chief by the Alabama Peace Officer's Standards and Training Commission and the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police.
Chief Barley is a member of the Hartselle Kiwanis Club and Co-Director of the Hartselle Half Marathon. He and his wife have two children and absolutely love living and serving in the City of Hartselle!
