City Cemetery
The cemetery map is searchable by either plot number or last name. Search results will appear as the name of the plot owner/purchaser. Clicking on a result will show the location and internment record for that plot.
A "V" entry for the name of interred indicates that there is currently no mapped burial record for that plot. Such plots are likely unused, but that should not be considered a certainty. The map is continually updated with additions and clarifications.
Plots in yellow shading are currently available for purchase. However, the map may not reflect very recent purchases. Always call or visit city hall to confirm plot availability.
Actual plot or burial locations may vary slightly from the locations as shown. This map is not intended as official guidance for grave opening or the placement of monuments. Always call city hall for marking prior to any such activity.
About the Cemetery
The Hartselle City Cemetery is located at 1100 Railroad Street NW. It occupies 14 acres with over 6,000 burial plots. There are approximately 2,900 recorded burials in the cemetery, dating from 1879 to present day, including more than 350 veteran graves.
Lot Setup
Each individual burial plot in the cemetery is part of an eight-plot square which forms one block. The size of a cemetery block is 20'×20'. Each burial plot is 5'x10'.
Cost
The cost of one individual plot is $750. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted for payment. An additional transaction fee applies to credit card payments. Partial payments are not accepted.
Burial
The City of Hartselle does not handle the opening and closing duties for burial. These duties should be handled by the chosen funeral home. However, the funeral home must contact city hall before the opening so city staff can mark the grave location and ensure accurate burial placement.
Monuments & Monument Placement
City hall must be informed before the placement of monuments or grave markers to avoid placement errors. The city does not level settled or fallen monuments. Such leveling is the responsibility of the family, and may be accomplished by contacting a local monument company.
Cemetery Care
The Park and Recreation Department is dedicated in trying to make the final resting place of your loved one look its best by performing duties such as mowing, removing weeds, and filling in settled graves as needed. There are no yearly fees for the City Cemetery. A percentage of the monthly plot sales proceeds are appropriated to the Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund for the continual upkeep of the cemetery.
Resale or Transfer
The City of Hartselle does not facilitate the transfer of interment rights for a burial plot from the original owner to another individual. However, the city should be notified of any such transactions to ensure that the proper documents are completed and ownership records are accurate.
Please contact city hall at 256-773-2535 for any other questions or concerns.
